An OVI checkpoint will be held from 10 p.m. to midnight tonight on U.S. Route 40, in Madison County, it was announced Friday morning by the West Jefferson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The checkpoint, held in conjunction with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the West Jefferson Police Department, is funded by federal grant funds.
The event, being held the evening of St. Patrick’s Day, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver related injury and fatal crashes.
“If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other arrangements before you drink,” a spokesperson said. “Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.”
