The Jonathan Alder boys golf team split its home tri-match Thursday, Aug. 28, at Buck Ridge Golf Course.


The Pioneers fired a round of 170 which was good enough to top Galion (192), but well behind the impressive 150 turned in by River Valley.


Jon Peters and Conner Lombardi led the way for Alder shooting matching rounds of 41. Logan Woods was right behind with a 42, and Lucas McClaskie delivered a round of 46.


River Valley’s Colin Chapman was the event medalist with his 34.


Girls golf

The Red Raiders came out on the wrong end of a Mid-State League match with Logan Elm Thursday, Aug. 28 at Raintree South Golf Club, but there were reasons to be happy if you’re a follower of London.


Morgan Haynes was the event medalist with a career-best nine-hole score of 45. Jessie Thompson finished with a 58, Kendra Berschet fired a 63, while Brook Carter had a 90 and Katie Hill carded a 112.


Berschet’s round included her first-ever birdie, it was the first birdie for any Red Raiders golfer this season.


Madison-Plains 194,


Circleville N/A


The Golden Eagles traveled to Circleville Thursday, Aug. 28 for a league match, but the host Tigers did not have enough members to record a team score so Madison-Plains High School won by forfeit. Coach Jim Miller’s team fired a 194. Circleville had only three players.


Kaylin Dill and Bailey Stephens were co-medalists with rounds with 41. Christan Bowshier came through with a 50. Regan Rubel and Morgan Hunter had matching rounds of 62, Emma Davis (71) and Blair Bryant (75) also played for Plains.

The Pioneers picked up a Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference victory over the Spartans Thursday, Aug. 28.


Brenna Holmberg dropped a match at first single to Pleasant’s Missy Dean 6-3, 6-3, but teammates Chloe Grove (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) bounced back to win her second singles match. Mikayla Holland was unable to win her third singles match falling 4-6, 6-3, 5-7.


The team earned the victory by sweeping the doubles courts.


Miranda Karabinos and Sammy Kaser dropped their first set, but rallied to top Paige Sims and Abby Lemon 3-6, 6-3, 6-0. The Alder second doubles combo of Chelsi Mason and Keli Geers fought their way to a three-set triumph over Evanelly Rodriguez and Emily Curtiss 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-2).
