Where are the superdelegates?

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Superdelegates were a hot topic during the Democratic primaries but for those looking, it was hard to find them Tuesday during the roll call of the states at the Democratic National Convention.

Where were all those hundreds of superdelegates who had helped put Hillary Clinton over the top in her battle against Bernie Sanders?

They were physically there, on the floor of the Wells Fargo Arena, but hard to tease out.

Their votes were mixed in, state by state, with those of all the other delegates.

The 712 superdelegates — party leaders and elected officials who get a say in the nomination race — favored Clinton by lopsided margins and helped her maintain dominance over Sanders.

Going into the convention, Clinton had the support of 609 superdelegates to 47 for Sanders, with more than 50 uncommitted.

Sanders supporters are trying to change the party platform to reduce their influence in future elections.
