US probing whether airstrike harmed Syrian civilians

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military is looking into whether a coalition airstrike in northern Syria caused civilian casualties.

U.S. Central Command, which is responsible for U.S. forces in the Middle East, says in a statement Thursday that the American-backed coalition had conducted airstrikes in the area of Manbij (MAN-behj) during the past 24 hours.

The city is a hub for Islamic State militants and lies on a key supply route to their de facto capital of Raqqa.

The command, based in Tampa, Florida, says it will review all information, including details from third parties, to determine whether civilians were harmed.
